Abstract

The Global Financial Crisis occurred in 2007-2008 and was the most significant since the Great Depression. This thesis explores the reaction of public technology companies and, more specifically, the industries of Information Technology (IT) Services and Business Software & Services to the Global Financial Crisis. This study analyzes the patterns of successful companies that help them recover quickly from crises and set up long-term growth. The identified patterns apply to product and service IT companies during future financial crises. All 28 companies from this study are traded on one of three stock exchanges: NASDAQ, NYSE, and AMEX. Financial statements are considered as the primary source of historical data. Unlike other studies, this thesis proposes a quantitative approach to the evaluation of the capacity of a company to react to a financial crisis and analyses the main strategic priorities to minimize the consequences of the crisis.
